Did you visit the SF Decorator Showcase this year? We enjoyed going through the house and all its spectacular rooms.
We were honored to have our textile – Sonoma- glitter graphite used on a window seat in the Fortuna Solarium by Leann and Alexis, the talented designers of Chroma SF.
Read through a short Q&A about Chroma SF’s inspiration for their Showcase designs, their dream projects, and to browse more images of their eclectic room with breathtaking views!
1. What is the theme/ inspiration for your Solarium room? Did you choose to design the Solarium and if so, why?
With its sweeping views of the Bay, the Solarium offers a more personal dimension—a space for morning rituals, relaxation, meditation, and intimate conversations. Spiritually, the design resonates with the glamor of the French/Italian Riviera, the rebellion of the Bay Area, and the drama of ancient mythologies. The design of the Solarium evolves a more conventional palette of elegant undertones with subversive hits of vibrant saturated hues for a timeless yet of-the-moment, almost futuristic ambience.
2. What has been your most favorite design project to date? What is your dream project?
We’ve just finished a family home in West Cliff, Santa Cruz that we can’t wait to share. A historic structure suffused with eccentric lore, this cliffside family home in Santa Cruz originated as a fisherman’s cottage in the 1950s. Subtly renovated for contemporary living with McGriff Architects, Joni Janeki Landscape Design, and Jeff Construction—a deceptively intricate feat and true labor of love—this home is sensitively tuned to its environment, floating ethereally above the rhythmic ebb and flow below. Referencing the hyperlocal architectural language of William Wurster and the introspective clarity of contemporary French designers like Pierre Chapo, the home is softly contoured with gorgeous woods, rattan, and ceramic, exquisite in their humble simplicity. Thoughtful, warm, and deeply referential of history, the design centers local craft and community—including works by The long Confidence, Christopher Norman, and WHITE DIRT Studio—infused with custom Chroma pieces embracing the intricacy and intention of high fashion as well as the family’s own playful quiddities.
3. What is your favorite pattern from our line- textile or wallcovering?
We adore the Sonoma in Glitter Graphite we used for the bench in the Solarium for its pattern that reads like a texture with subtle moments of metallic.
